about
It's hard to be honest about this track. It was written under a very stressful and heart-breaking fight with a family member.
However, the fight has since been resolved but many of the underlying themes of trying to be yourself around people who forbid or discourage it sometimes forces you to find a way to live peacefully 'dancing' around issues and trying your best to not 'wake the elephants in the room'
When we composed it together we found a Pink Floyd type of feeling in how to came to release the energy felt with increasing intensity.
Feel free to find your own meaning in the lyrics and apply it to your life in your own way. The more I listen to it, the more at peace I feel with how things eventually work themselves out.
Also written in Denton, Texas. Recorded in a cabin in Oklahoma around midnight on our TASCAM. It took several takes to try to get through without crying. Like I said, a very hard song.
lyrics
Around You
By: The Lonesome Doves
It starts out
very innocently
Then you resent me
So it goes
Why did all this ever have to happen?
That's just what happens
When you grow
I don't know why
You can't look me in the eye
And tell me
What you know
The elephants roam around this place
running out of space
in the room
The only cages that I see
are around me
round me and you
And I've been dancing all of my life
around you
trying not wake the elephants in the room
Spinning in circle
well it will only make you dizzy
if i can stand still
then i could just be me
And its hard for me
to ever want to speak
the sound truth
around you
Cause as far as I can see
its only going to lead
to hurt you
and those around you
And that is
That is the quagmire
You've set so much on fire
Around you
and soon it will
surround you
Around you
Around you
It starts out
very innocently
now you resent me
So it goes.
